Management and Organizational Architechtures

Objectives:
The main objective of this complex program is to study the architectural properties of the organizational structures 
and management systems which make businesses flexible in complex and dynamic contexts, taking advantage of their connections with the evolution of technologies, globalization, change in competitive and vertical organization of the sector. In particular, the research group is interested in investigating how in the current phase of industrial capitalism management perceives, plans, applies and improves organizational structures and management systems.

 

Methodologies:
The research program is divided into 4 interdisciplinary projects but provided with autonomous management:

  • Intraorganizational coordination and organizational skils
  • Organization and management as design
  • The co-evolutional planning of products, technology and organizations
  • Planning and evolution of knowledge architectures of a product: a reticular perspective

The first project aims to identify the structural properties of the organizations that allow companies to systematically fuel their competitive advantage, resolving in particular complex trade-off such as those between efficiency and 
innovation.
The second project aims to standardize organization and management in a design perspective.
The third project has an outlook on the structure and dynamics of complex systems and their design particularly linked with products, technology, organizational structure and management systems (as complex systems).
The fourth uses network analysis methodologies to investigate the structural properties and evolutionary dynamics of knowledge at the basis of evolution of company product portfolios.


Team and Partners:
The research program is led by A. Camuffo and includes senior researchers in the Università Bocconi Management Department.
